Practical solidarity for a world that puts people first
@Picturehouses pay your staff a living wage

Tweet for fairer pay at Picturehouse Cinemas

After a long and hard fought campaign last year for the living wage, staff at Brixton's Ritzy cinema (part of the Picturehouse chain) and their union BECTU got their employer to make a significant increase to their very low wages. But Picturehouse refused to extend the pay rise to other staff in the chain.

Picturehouse Cinemas is a profitable company, owned by the wealthy Cineworld multinational. They can well afford the costs of paying their dedicated staff more fairly.

Fair Pay Fortnight - 16 Feb to 1 March 2015 - is an ideal opportunity to build onthis important campaign, and to support workers across Britain's increasingly low paid and low security services sector.

We know that Picturehouse is worried about customer pressure. The chain has many long term users and members who have already left them over this issue or expressed their concern. One way we can add to the pressure is to get messages sent to them on Twitter. They will be mindful that comments will be visible to thousands of potential customers whom they'd rather keep in the dark about their refusal to pay their staff a living wage.
